Position:Home>Genealogy> Where does the last name ng come from?

Question:China, although there are people who have been born in Viet Nam, Peru, San Francisco and other places around the world for three, four and five generations who are what they call "Ethnic Chinese". It means their ancestors came from China but they and their recent ancestors were born in their new homeland.

I spoke basic Hokkien when I was in the Peace Corps; it is one of the hundred or so Chinese dialects. If you say the english word "Song", linger over the "ng" part, remember that sound, then say just the "Ng" part, you'll be pronouncing "Ng" properly for many Chinese dialects. It isn't "Eng", "Nog or "Nig".

It's Asian. Vietnam, I think.

I know a lot of people from Hong Kong have that last name.

I've looked it up and many sources state that Ng is Chinese.

According to www.ancestry.com its Chinese,
Ng
Chinese : variant of Wu 1.
Chinese : variant of Wu 4.
hope this helps.

Vietnam gets my vote as it was the name of a gent I knew who said he was Vietnamese

Ng is from Indochina. Most are from VietNam, but it's also in Laos and many of the other little countries in the area.
