Question Home

Position:Home>Genealogy> Who is Casey Aldridge? Aldridge is my maiden name and its relatively rare.?

Question:I grew up in New Hampshire and my family were the only ones I knew with the last name of Aldridge with this particular spelling. I haven't met anyone else with that last name all over the United States with one exception and that was in MO. The lady was from, I believe, South Carolina. I know there are a lot of Aldridges in England but not here in the US. So I'm really curious to find out about someone who might be related to me.

He's Jamie Lynn Spears (Britney's sis) boyfriend.

Here's a link that may help, though. It's Genforum, a genealogy BB and you will find all kinds of info here:

I found a long lost cousin on this board!
Good luck!

the social security death index shows almost 7300 persons with the name Aldridge, who have died since about 1960 in the US. I'm wagering it is not that rare. Rootsweb's family files has over 5600 entries for the name (yes, some will be duplicates, but it is still a healthy number).
If we can intrigue you into researching your own ancestors...you can normally work back to the yr 1880 with not too much trouble. The census is available from 1790- 1930 via ancestry.com. The 1880 is intriguing, as it was the first one that shows not only the birth place of a person, but also that of the person's parents (even when they are not living). Thus, you would be able to see all the Aldridge families in NH.. take a glance to see the eldest male among those (women have different names before marriage). Say the oldest one in 1880 is 70 yrs old (ie born ca 1810), and his parents show born NH or ? that gives you a view into the mid or late 1700s. If you don't want to try ancestry, the 1880 is open / free via www.familysearch.org.
And, as mentioned, genforum is a good place to find others working the same last name and often connect with actual relatives.
All things considered... someone there may already have zoomed in on Casey and knows which line he connects to.
Have fun...

Fame hungry are we? (:
there are a ton of kids at my school with that last name
and spelling
and actually only 1 or 2 of them are related

says it is 1400th in popularity in the US, based on 1990 data. Pack is 1,681st; Smith and Johnson are # 1 & 2. So, your surname is more common than some and rarer than others.

Unless your great great great grandpa sailed away to a deserted island with a dozen dusky but willing Sourh Sea Island women, then populated it all by himself, most of the people related to you do not have your last name. 15 out of 16 of your great great grandparents were not Aldridges. That means that, on average, 15/16ths of your 3rd cousins ar enot Adlridges and few of your great aunts and uncles are.

Genealogy is a good way to find people related to you.
