It has been suggested by DNA findings that the first people to colonise the British Isles were probably Basque in origin who started moving North as we began moving out of the last Ice Age. So I guess that quite a few here have "Spanish" ancestors.

considerable numbers of people in britain have spanish roots and links. There are strong celtic links in Spain, France, Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and, of course, Scotland.

A substantial number of the ships from the Spanish armada were blown up the Irish sea and further up as far as the Isle of Skye and shipwrecked. The survivors stayed where they landed (Ireland, West Scotland)

One ship decided to invade Scotland and the crew were roundly thumped for being cheeky. There is a mountain in Kintail called Sgurr nan Spainteach. Moount of the Spainman

Gaelic did not have a word for Spain or spanish

I had a friend whose name was Perez but her father was French.

There are lots, and some won't even know it. If you examine the 19th century censuses of London for example, there are a lot of women giving their birthplace as Spain, but marrying men with English surnames. So unless a family today has researched its roots it may have no idea there was a Spanish great-great-great-grandmother.

Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson has Spanish ancestry.

My ancestors were Spanish Jews that were expelled from Spain during the Inquisition, they fled to Great Britain and then Morocco. If you are looking to research any Spanish last names, try the web-site Sephardim.com it is verry helpful.
