Question:This question is for anyone who has knowledge or experience with Swedish Genealogy. I am working on my family tree, and have traced a part of the tree to Sweden. I am finding various references to something called the EmiHamm. I have tried to figure out what the EmiHamm is, but have only come to the conclusion that it is some sort of database. I am wondering if someone can give me more information. Where can I find this database? What kinds of information can I find in this database, etc. Thanks. Please only serious answers. Thank you!

There are several Swedish Emigrant databases, one is EMIHAMN (not emihamm). It contains names of 1.3 million emigrants leaving the swedish harbours (hamn=harbour) G?teborg, Malm?, Stockholm, Norrk?ping och Kalmar. There is a CD availabe with several searchable databases (Emihamn included), see below. I happen to live in an ald old hotel where many emigrants spent there last hight in Sweden, close to the harbour in G?teborg (Gothenburg). Some nights we can here them...

Is there anything in this directory that might help you.

Hope this helps.

Roots Web has a mailing list devoted to Sweden. You can browse old messages here:

http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/SW...

Or search all messages in all mailing lists, or all messages in one mailing list, here:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/sea...

The list comes up in Google when I search for EmiHamm. It does seem to be a data base. I get so few hits I suspect it is really spelled with one or more of those vowels with dots on the top, and neither your keyboard nor mine can type it properly.

There are 10 hits in the RW Archives search engine for it, spelled in the English letters and searching across all mailing lists.

I used the browse link above to check the volume. RW-Sweden gets 300 - 500 messages a month. If you can cope with that many e-mail messages, you might join the mail list.
