May have some info that would help you.

I found the manifest of the ship he immigrated on...it was the S.S. Columbia, sailed from Glasgow on 5 April 1925.

On this manifest he identified his nearest relative as his mother...

Mrs. Jessie Simpson, 1 Parker Street, Glasgow.

BUT -- it seems he also made a trip to Newark, NJ in 1913 also on the S. S. Columbia. Correct age, home area, and both gave the occupation of "Plater" which is unsual enough to give high confidence they are the same person.

On this 1913 trip, he identifed his nearest living relative as his grandfather John Russel. It is exceptionally difficult to read the address (hand written and very poorly at that) but appears to be ... 12 Henrietta St. (that seems clear) but my best guess (and it is a bad guess I assure you) at the rest is Scotstom, Hesfon (or Hesford??). Maybe someone from the UK, Scotland could make a better guess based on what I wrote above.

Note that he was Single as the time of the 1913 trip. He was listed as widowed on the 1925 trip.

He does appear in the 1891 Scotland Census in the household of his mother Jessie in Glasgow Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland. But that is way before he would have had children.

Not 100% certain but possible Abraham Simpson of Springfield.

You could try searching the local press for a obituary they generally give family details,

Good look and good hunting

will give you a link, type in your info...they also have message boards where you can post about finding relatives.
my mother is 62, her father was an american soilder who was unmarried to my mums mother. when he went back to war after the fling he was killed and never knew of her existence, i recently found my grandfathers sister, who after 62 years since the death of her brother was delighted to know that he had a child(irish as well...what a bonus!) as he didnt have any other...well that we know off.
volunteer searchers gave me the address of his sister through a message i posted on this site. Good luck!!

I did find his death record from 1966 on the SSDI. I would suggest two things. The first is to contact the Mormon Family History Center in Wilmette IL (it's a beautiful suburb just north of Chicago and this is the best Family History Center in Illinois). Ask if they would have a volunteer go to the library and pull his obituary for you. Being such a densely populated area, Chicago obituaries are notoriously brief, but they should list all children back in that era. There is also a very good researcher on this site named Lieberman who is an attorney and genealogist from the Chicago area. You might try contacting him to see if he could pull the record for you. http://www.wilmettefhc.org/

The second thing I would suggest is requesting a copy of his death certificate from the Cook County Clerk's office. They are extremely organized and answer requests quite quickly. The certificate would tell you if he was remarried and if he had other children. Here's the link where you can order from them online: http://www.cookctyclerk.com/sub/death_ce...

Yes she had 2 brothers and 1 sister.

Yes I think that Abraham Simpson had a son named Homer.
