Can my husband to be take on my surname?

Question:i am getting married and currently have the same surname as my daughter which i would like to keep (my family name). i know its unusual but it is possible for my husband to take my name. i do not want a double barrelled name.

Yes, he can. And he doesn't need to do it by deed poll either. He can send the wedding cert to officialdom to change the name on his passport. He can also use the name for at least two years, ie on bills etc, then it is by 'common assent'. the hoi-poloi change names frequently when inheriting titles. The current Lord O'Neil of Shane's Castle, Co. Antrim wasn't born an O'Neil but assumed the name on taking the title.

It is more tradition which states the woman takes the mans name, providing your intended is happy with that arrangement it shouldn't be a problem.

My father changed his name by deed poll prior to his marriage (not to my mother's name) there is no problem for any documentation, as he had a deed poll certificate, which could be produced when there might be a problem. I produced it when I needed to collect his death certificate, as it was a different name than on his birth certificate.
