Position:Home>Genealogy> I'm interested in finding my real dad. Are there any FREE websites that can

Question:I have tried searching on him for 411.com but there are no listings for his name. I would like to search census records if possible for his name. I don't really have much money to spend on all this & I know it can be pricey, so if there are any free sites that can help that'd be great!

In the USA, many people like zabasearch.com.

The latest census that is open to the public is 1930. It wouldn't be much use.

If his name is rare and you know something about him, you could try Google with quotes for all four forms of his name:

"Ted Pack"
"Pack, Ted"
"Theodore Pack"
"Pack, Theodore"

If a "Ted Pack" comes up as finishing #14 in a Senior 10K race in Pocatello, and you know your father is over 50, likes to run and lives in Idaho, that's a clue.

If you know his exact birth date or SSN, the Social Security Administration will forward a letter to him. They may not have his current address and he may not want to respond. Write if you'd like the link to complete instructions for that route.

Unless you're pretty old, census records won't help. The latest one they have release for people to view is 1930. Your state or county may have records available for free online or in person that might be helpful. For example my county has marriage and probate records for free online all the way up to (I think) 1985. You also maybe be able to write to your appropriate state agency for copies birth certificates, etc for a small fee.
