Nope, haven't participated and don't intend to do so. Besides the expense of DNA tests, look at one of the first things that you see when you go to the web site...

DNA studies SUGGEST that....

This is actually one of the cheapest DNA tests (at $99.95 plus shipping and handling). If it is worth the money to you, then by all means go for it.

But there is also the "circular" problem with these types of studies - unavoidable when the study is performed as it is. If you decide to participate after getting your results, YOU are asked to identify certain cultural/ancestral backgrounds about yourself. Of course you are doing this to find that out.

Also before deciding (National Geographic is a very respected organization and has presented their disclaimers very clearly and prominantly - I wish all such places would do so) reflect on this clear limitation....

"Furthermore, this is not a genealogy study. You will not learn about your great-grandparents or other recent relatives, and your DNA trail will not necessarily lead to your present-day location. Rather, your results will reveal the anthropological story of your direct maternal or paternal ancestors—where they lived and how they migrated around the world many thousands of years ago."

So really, it's a pure personal choice. Is it worth the money? Is what they are doing (just be sure you understand what they are doing - and they openly and clearly explain this) is interesting to you? If so, really, go for it.
