Have you ever met up with distant relatives 'met' through genealogy?

Question:Am just wondering if any of you have ever met up with any distant relatives you have contacted through your genealogical research....if you don't mind sharing..

yes, distant cousins a bunch of us all descended from a group of brothers in the 1700s.

I haven't met anyone through genealogy, but my Mother has met distant cousins in Ohio, when there researching our family tree. She has corresponded with others in Tennessee, but they've never met in person. A couple formerly unknown cousins came from Arkansas to visit her in Kansas after they connected through her research. =)

Through the internet I have. The message boards are very helpful that way. Actually my success has been more on the location message boards rather than the surname message boards.

I exchange emails with one double distant cousin on my father's side. Also I have made numerous contact with descendants of one of my great grandfather's brothers on my mother's side.

yes. we were both looking for family info on the same person and didn't realize the other's line even existed. She and her husband live in KC and we lived, at the time, in Buffalo. They decided to visit us and Niagara Falls the next summer. Great folks.

There have been many, many others I have met online and who helped with their family histories and stories. People with an interest in their family history are, generally, the nicest and most generous folks you would care to meet.

Not at you... sweetie... 90% of the relatives I know, have been through research online (or off).
Many of those that I have met, have become as close as if I had known them all my life.
For me, it is standard. I also met my husband online. He turned out to be distantly related to my ex (and my daughters). He would get a big kick out of your question.

Yes, I have infact met a lot of relatives. We have our own Yahoo Group. I've traveled across country to family reunions to meet cousins I've found through genealogy.
