My Mum`s dad who left her in a childrens home in Hornchurch Essex around 1935 (the year of her birth). So he could have been born around 1900- 1915 i guess. He was called Alex/Alexander Davey, from North Wales. I`ve had problems finding records for Wales. My Mum was born in Essex and her name is Jane, her Mother was called Jessie Downey, not sure if she ever married Alex. She emigrated with another man to Canada after my Mum was born.

OK, i have checked some records for free and i think i got the same result, it looks like you have to go and check in person but as i don`t know which area to check, i`m a bit stumped, just don`t have a spare 6 months and the 8 grand to fund the time off work, thanks anyway.

The next step is to apply to the local record office by letter, if you do not live in the region. It will cost you about £8 for the certificate. Alternatively you could apply through the GRO website - http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/cont... Good Luck! Report It

  • Sure! William Morrison of Burke county NC. around the times of 1750-1810. Also in McDowell and Rutherford counties. But early on, like around 1750 they were all in Rowan county.

We think there was more than one William and we are trying to figure out who is who! It is the brick wall we have.

Sorry, Billy, this isn't answering your question, but I was intrigued by Manu's problems. There are three Alexander Daveys born on Wales between 1900-1915, two in S Wales, and one in Caenarvenshire in 1908. I think this is the one you want. I can't find any marriage entries for England or Wales, and there is one death entry I found that is too old. Having said that, there are a lot of deaths on mine 20th century I can't find either. I found this in the free indexes in Ancestry UK.
