Question:I have been trying to find out the originis of these surnames for a while:

- Malich
- Madrers

My great-great-great Grandfather was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1838 and his name was John Malich Madrers. After a while he moved to England then to Australia. I am not sure on the origin of Madrers because it is very rare!

I found this on www.ancestry.com,

Malich
Americanized spelling of Slovenian Malic and Croatian Malic: nickname for a small person, from the adjective mali ‘small’. Compare Malec, Malek, and Malik.

no name meaning and origin for Madrers

I couldn't find anything for the surname Madrers though, sorry.

Malich means master in sanskrit

The secret to the roots of your gt-gt-gt Grandfather lay in the name of his country of origin = ROMANIA - think Roman and think ROMA and we are starting to get somewhere.

It is very probably that the surname MADRERS is of Roman origin or possibly simply Italian.
