Position:Home>Genealogy> Any one know the name Robideaux?

Question:The name originated from a Spanish sailor who settled in with the French-Canadians. There is no other line of the family in France because it's an adulteration of a Spanish name into French that belonged only to one man.

The first member of the family settled in Noveau France, which is now Quebec. His name was Andre Robidou-dit-l'Espagnol, which literally means "Andre Robidou also known as the Spaniard".

You are actually lucky because the Robidoux line is one of the few that is well organized and has its own organization for preservation and education of the family in place. In addition, the PRDH at the Universite de Montreal has the entire family mapped out, from Andre to all of his descendents born through 1799. There are nearly 3000 records for you.

It's a French variation for Robert.

This is what www.ancestry.com has to say about the name,
Robideaux
French: probably from an altered form of the personal name Robardeau, a pet form of Robert.
hope this helps.
