Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: He was of Canadian decent Costello was the lasy name.

You will probably need to go to the Victorian state library as this is where this kind of information is likely held. AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, THESE ROLLS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET

Various Years of Australian Electoral Rolls on Microfiche are held at the State Library of Victoria

This would also have the records on where he was born and how long he had been living in Australia. I guess this is where you start.
Another place to go to is http://www.ancestry.com.au. This gives you a free sight to look up your brothers fathers history. Also worth a look.
Good Luck and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Try web site Acestry.com.

Try http://www.reunion.com.au

You could try writing to local papers in that area, asking them if they'd print an article (or at least run an ad)about your search, asking anyone who knew your brother's father to get in touch. Or see if they have an online mesage board.

Look up Costello in modern telephone directories from the area, ring any numbers you find and ask if they're a relation.

Look up Costello in telephone directories/local papers from the 1940s. (ancestry.com may have this data. If not, try public libraries, if you live in Australia. If not, try the internet or try family history websites to find people who will do look-ups. I've just checked and the Victoria, Australia section of www.genealogy.com seems to have a lot of generous souls who will look up census details etc for others). If you find an address he was living in then, write to everyone who lives on that street today and ask them if they remember him and know what happened to him after he left the area.

Post messages on any internet family history community message boards you can find (e.g. www.genealogy.com, www.genesreunited.co.uk, any ones local to that area).
