Position:Home>Genealogy> My dad found this old book...?

Question:and he brought it home and in it, there was an old obituary. It was about my mom's granddad. It says "Survived by...". It lists all of my mom's aunts and uncles (her granddad's kids.) It has everyone, but my Grandpa and great-aunt. I've been looking through dif. website trying to find Grandpa, but I can't seem to. I've tried obituarysearch.com, ancestory.com, AND genealogy.com, and ancestroysearch.com. Can you please tell me why Grandpa and my great-aunt isn't listed in Great-Granddad's obituary and any website's that I haven't tried that may have them? Please! This is driving me crazy...

The most likely reason is that the son (your grandpa) might have died before his own father.
Grandpa's death certificate will show name of his parents, and when/where he died. The issue with the obit you found is that it probably was cut, and did not include the date and paper.
It is misleading that the popular sites will have "everyone".
Your mom probably knows (and will hopefully share) details about your grandpa, such as his approximate death date and location, etc. Might as well add grandma while you are talking to her.
If you post either the details about grandpa (or gr grandpa if you choose) with what you know about him, including place and date, we'll see what we can find or suggest where to look. don't include names of living persons.

People make mistakes. They may have been left off because the person writing it goofed.

Because they didn't know of all of the survivors.

Because there was a family rift, and the other survivors didn't want to acknowledge their sibs.

Sorry, those are my best guesses.
