Henry Hudson, who is credited with discovering both the Hudson River and Hudson Bay, spent his adult life at sea, so presumably he came in contact with many languages and cultures. He was born in London, England, quite possibly his grandfather was a London alderman, and his last voyage was for the British East India Company, so he spoke English as his first language. He also captained two other voyages of exploration in an attempt to find a Northwest passage to Asia--the first for the English Muscovy Company and the second, more famous voyage, for the Dutch East India Company. Therefore, he also possibly spoke Russian and most probably spoke Dutch since half the members of the crew of the Half Moon were English and half were Dutch.

He probably spoke Latin as well...
