Position:Home>Genealogy> What do you know about your family ancestry and their country of origin?

Question:I am a descendant of Vikings from Norway. My parents came to live in the US in 1975 when they were newly-weds. We still have a ton of relatives that live in Norway. The ancient Vikings were fierce warriors and traveled everywhere by ship. They often took or stole things they wanted from other countries. Not a very pretty picture, I know. But, it's what they were and who my people come from. We are Lutherans.

Who are your people and where did the come from?

All of my grandparents came to the US from Finland in the 1930's. They were farmers in Finland and I am married to a farmer, so I guess you could say the apple didn't fall too far from the tree! Some of our family is from Lapland (a northern region of Finland) and to this day, they are reindeer herders. They herd with helicopters and snowmobiles. I was baptized in the Lutheran Church as an infant, but raised in the Episcopal Church. The thing I love most about my heritage is the beautiful traditional dress of the Laplanders, the unusual foods we eat (herring salads with beets and blood pancakes to name a few... LOL!) and the stories my grandparents told me about their childhoods and families. When my mother's father courted my grandmother, they would sit in her family room with about 16 siblings, a set of parents and a set of grandparents supervising...and weave linens on a loom. I have some of these linens to this day and they are my pride, joy and heritage.

Thanks for the cool question!

I dont know alot about my family except that my ancesters came from Croatia. I hope to learn more about my heritage and my mom says that one of my uncles is trying to publish a memoir from my great great grandfather coming to America.

Came from Ireland, Scotland, and England. One side were mormons and the other side were puritans.

So you have traced your family line far enough back to know that your ancestors were vikings and not just common people from Norway....I didn't know Vikings kept such good records of birth and death.

Anyway...I am a Lambert.(means "light of the land")..which is a French name, but my descendants came from England in the 1700's. Apparently the Frenchmen had settled in a small village in England many hundred years before. Two Lambert brothers and a cousin left England and sailed to America. The cousin landed in Massachusetts. The brother, Samuel, landed in coastal Virginia and the other brother landed in Georgia. All Lamberts in Canada and the US can trace back to 1 of the 3. I have descended from the Virginia line apparently.

im hapa-half haole(caucasian ), half japanese.

i know more about my japanese heritage- but not much. my great grandma came to maui, hawaii, as a japanese picture bride. i have a lot of family here and some in japan, but idk anyone in japan at all. thats about it.

i know barely anything about my haole side. i know that i am these ethnicities though: irish, english, scottish, german, french, french canadian, along with dakota souix and cherokee indian. i think i have others but cant remember. all i really know about that stuff is that my great (or great, great or something) grandpa crossed the canadia-american border over the niagra falls in a barrel, i think.

as for my people's history...i have too many ethnicities to list.

I don't know alot yet , but i'm trying to get there. What i do know so far is that there was a civil war soldier in the family, and that on my mothers' side there was a family feud that caused the family to split and each side chose to use a different last name which can really mess with your head when you are trying to find these people! Other than that we are all from the southern states of America. Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, Texas etc...
