Position:Home>Genealogy> I am looking for the Cenneidigh clan badge, can you find it?

Question:If you belong to the Scottish Kennedy Clan there is a badge. It has a dolphin on it.

In Irish Gaelic it is usually spelled a little differently. The Irish Kennedy family belong to the DalCassian tribe and besides the Kennedy clan arms you may use the DalCassian badge. The DalCassian badge is the Arm of Nuadu ( a Celtic god) holding the Sword of Light

Whether you are of the Irish or Scots Kennedy clan I wish you well.

  • Is this an Irish clan by any chance, I couldn't find it in the Scottish clans index.

I would imagine the name is a Gaelic spelling of something like Kennedy. If so, you might translate the name into English in the additional details for other posters who might answer.

"Cenneidgh" is [Scottish]* Gaelic for the Anglicized surname of "Kennedy" (as in JFK). Brian mac Cenneidigh, son of Kennedy, was crowned High King of Ireland in 1002. He is remembered for his victory over the Vikings at the battle of Clontarf, which also meant his doom.

I have located a Kennedy clan badge at http://www.maybole.org/Notables/clankenn...
The motto for *Scottish Kennedys in Latin is "Avise la fin," which translates, "Consider the end."

*Thanks, for the tip, Bassmeis. . . I'll amend my answer to note that "Cennedigh" is Scottish Gaelic for "Kennedy". Of course, one of JFK's ancestors immigrated from Scotland to Ireland, or so says one of my links to famous kin on Ancestry.com.
