I took a FAST look at the genweb site last nite for the county in Miss. where she was, since they offered particular indexes for wills/ families who may have been slave owners in that county. That is something you don't see on all genweb pages, it is a bonus. Off hand, I did not see something that jumped out.
What I see is that Leah was born in 1867, which is 2 yrs after the Civil War ended. IF the census is correct (and it has to be thought it is, without other evidence), Leah was born in Mississippi. The Miners did not come there until just prior to 1880. Since "age 13" is passed down as oral history, my thinking is that 13 has relevance... and it may be when they took her in.
I can only think of one source right at the moment where Leah should be with her parents, which is the 1870 census, maybe in the same county as 1880, or possibly adjoining county. I don't have ancestry, so I can't run that search for you. THAT census, if you can find her, would be critical. IF her parents took the Harvey surname from their former owner... but that is not guaranteed, it is just common.
The other source is the 1900 census where you would find her and Thomas, and children. You will want the original image... it will give you how many years married and "mother of how many children/ how many are living?" I may have found Thomas living with his parents in Noxubee co, Miss in 1880.. but not sure. Was he a few years younger than Leah? the one I find is born in 1872.
IF there was an obituary when Leah died, it might also include any siblings. But, I think 1870 is the most important. And the evidence suggests that she was NOT with the Miner family until at least 1880.
ps... don't give up. You are hanging in there, which is great. Each step learns something, but it might not fit what was passed down. But that's how research is.

I can't find what county Toogaloo is in. This page:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/ms/countie...

has a list of all the counties in Mississippi. There is a forum for each county. You might want to post on a county forum.

This forum is devoted to the Harvey surname:

Both forums are much smaller than this one, much slower than this one, but much more focused.

Best of luck!
