Question:Can any one give me some advice?.

My mother is 86 and many years ago after a family argument she and her brother fell out . They were very close .in their young days.

We know he lived in Hull not the place he was born or where my mother now lives.

We think he is more than likely dead . How can we find out about him?

Thank you

Hello Sophie, if you would like to email me your uncles name and any other information you have I will do the search for you. I have membership for the global collection on the ancestry.com / .co.uk sites. I noticed that you don't accept emails from other yahoo users, it might help if you did because he could still be alive and it would be unethical to post the information on yahoo genealogy if he is still alive.
You can email me mamsgel1956@yahoo.co.uk I would like to help if I can.

Good luck;D

i don't know...i hope you figure it out though...good luck!!!

I would check the Social Security Death Index to start.

talk to the police and ask them to look it up you can also go to google and type in his name for a death certficate

there has to be a directory in the City Council and you can get all your answers there.

go to the local record office where you think he was living and ask if they have any death records for his name.Or look up on the BT site find a person he may be alive and be on the phone.

Try the web sites below, you might find some thing also Channel 4 teletext pages 174/175 you could put a request on there, and you can do the same on www.rootsweb.com.

Good luck and good hunting

If the person is a United States Citizen, you will be able to find out if they have passed away by checking the Social Security Death Index:

tip one..
Justme is one of the most active persons from the UK, and can be of great help. Please drop her a note through her profile.

As for thumbs down, etc... genealogy questions are on the "main" page as they come in. Unfortunately, you'll get replies from some who could not even spell the word, much less grasp what it means.
In the last month, SEVERAL/ MANY of the qualified researchers give good or excellent help to questions, and have been getting thumbs down. The only answer to this is spiteful trolls, who have nothing better to do with their time than try to manipulate the whole idea of what 'help' is about. Unfortunately, there is NO way to determine who is doing it.
edit-
the social security death index is only appropriate for the US. It helps if people read, but at least they tried.

You could also e-mail me - I have a copy of the Electoral Roll on my computer (a couple of years old now), and I can check him out to see if he has registered to vote, which may indicate if he is likely to be alive, still..
I will need his first name, a second initial if possible and surname.
Click on my avatar to go to my Yahoo e-mail address.
You could also try www.192.com and see if anything comes up for him.

Don't find out...

Your mother just wants to make sure she outlived him, which is the ultimate revenge.

She may give up once she learns of his demise.

Flip side of the coin they may reunite and have many happy years together...

It is your gamble.
