Question:I am wanting to find out the names of the children of my Grandfather (deceased). Specifically his two sons. I have no way of asking anyone. What is available on a state and internet level that I could find out this information? Also- I am wanting to find out if a certain person has died.

Ancestry.Com has all the U.S. censuses through 1930. The 1940 and later are not available to the public yet. They have U.K. censuses also. Your public library might have a subscription to Ancestry.Com.

If a person was on Social Security at time of death and drawing off of their own Social Security number they will probably be on the Social Security Death Index. Rootsweb and FamilySearch.org (2 free sites) has the SSDI. All you need is the name of the person as they were listed on SS or their social security number. You don't need both.

has three sections devoted the three ways to get an obit. It is more trouble than many posters here want to go to, however.

If his sons are still living, chances are their details, like given name, birth place, sex, age, etc etc are hidden. Genealogy sites do that to preserve privacy. They may not even be on any genealogy data bases.

The Internet is powerful, but not omniscient.
