It's German; I have some "Linz"s in my family; "Lintz" is just a variation. It's a word that (after you dig through a couple of layers of Middle English and Old German) means "hillside," and is a habitational name - someone who lives in/on a hillside.

Lintz is German and comes from the NW part of the country, in the Bavarian and Hanoverian areas. The resource you'll need to find more information is the series of books at your library called "Germans to America". It's full of passenger list information from all the major ports in Europe and covers more than 20 years of German immigration to the US.

Bless the hearts of those trying to help. It is certainly most likely Germanic, perhaps Austrian, but let's make sure we are singing off the correct sheet of music, i.e. looking at the correct “Lintz.”

Your query must be approached in a proper, more targeted manner.

What is the earliest known location from whence they came?
Town, district, province, state or place-name known or mentioned? You might could find them on a passenger list, but only after you have ascertained the approx. year of immigration. These years are given in each of the US Censuses, 1900-1930.
