You can try one of the following. They are all paying sites, but you can buy just one obit as you need.

The other option is if you are close to Reno or a large library like a University library, they may carry the Reno newspapers in their archives.

There are also genealogy sites that could help. Try the Nevada genweb site or even Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. Both sites have volunteers that might be able to help you. But, you need to provide as much information to them as possible. It would help that you get date of death and location. Date of birth is helpful sometime, especially if it's a common name. I've used RAOGK and have had great results.

try newspapers or maybe go search police files(might be possible)anw,i feel sry 4 u tt u lost ur cousin.

newspapers from this period are rarely online. Most newspapers don't keep any kind of decent online internet archive until about 2002. Chances are, you'll have to view the newspaper the old-fashioned way, on microfilm at your local library.

If you know what city your cousin died in you could contact the library and have them check the newspapers for that time. Does her mom not know when she died or is the mom dead too?

Have you asked other relatives if they can help?

In all probability you are not going to get it on-line and you won't get it for free.

First, see if you can find her exact death date here:

Once you do, you have three options.

You can post a request on the Ancestry board for that county, but if someone looks it up for you, you are morally obligated to look one up for someone else in your county. This is called paying it forward. It won't cost you money, just time.

You can drive to Reno and look it up in the public library. That will cost you gas at the least.

You can write to the Washoe County Library with the exact date and a request. At the least you should send them a stamped, self-addressed envelope. A small donation to the staff coffee and donut fund would be polite too.

There are online newspapers indexes, like NewsBank, and your local library may have a subscription that will allow you to use it from home. Check at your library.

However, only the largest newspapers have online archives for their entire history. Most start around 1995, when Microsoft Windows came into existence. Since the obit is from 1988, your local librarian is still your best chance to locate a microfilm of the newspaper you need and to get it via Interlibrary Loan.
