New York Passenger list 1820-1957 shows 5 from England.

FAmilySearch.org (LDS site) has 5 in the 1880 census all living in Virginia.

They have a marrage record of a David Jarran to Betsey Davis Cape May New Jersey December 19, 1802

Mary Jarran married Francis A Allen Nov 21 1866, White County,Georgia

It does seem to be very rare. However, the International Genealogical Index for the British Isles has quite a few but with a varietey of spellings.
