As a genealogist, my first thought was....how do you know you are a descendant of Jack Ketch (died in 1686 and is actually BELIEVED to be a man with the name Richard Jaquet - Jack Ketch comes from his surname).

Can you provide the ancestry between you and Richard Jaquet? If not, that is where you should work - starting with you then going backwards through your parents, grandparets, etc.) Given that declaration of relationship, it seems that someone has traced a genealogy back 320 years (not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination), I would use that work (if it exists) as the starting point for further research. It should give his wife, his children (I couldn't find a single reference as to this person's family) and with that information, you might be able to move further backwards in time. Or, more likely, you will find that this is just a cool story that popped up in your family at some point.

There's quite a lot of information on the internet regarding 'Jack Ketch', just google his name.

Hope this helps.

I too had the impression that my family were descendants of Jack Ketch, an ex family member apparently researched our family tree and managed to get right back to him, I have never seen evidence of this and looking at the comment posted I am now starting to have doubts.
