Position:Home>Genealogy> SIU family?

Question:I would be grateful for a 1930 lookup to confirm the given name of my stepfather's father... this family should be in Los Angeles in the 1930 census...
(unknown) father Siu, born in China with wife Amalie (born Norway). One son, Gerald P was born in Montana, I believe, and siblings would be Grace Siu and Jacob Siu. It is possible that Amalie's maiden name was Johnson?
Any other details from ancestry gratefully accepted.. a year of immigration?
Have not thought of this family in years... as a small blond child in Los Angeles, I fondly remember dinners in Chinatown with Gerald's family. A tiny part of my background, but to this day, I cannot bring myself to eat Chinese food with a fork.

Found him on the 1920 census in Los Angeles with wife Amelia

YEICHENG Siu age 42 birth China
Spouse: Amelia born norway
Looks like she immigrated 1895 and he immigrated 1891 or 1893
children
Gerald - Montana
Grace -montana
Jacob -california

Yes wendy I would say that his name is either Yei Cheng Siu
or as on the california death index it says Yee Chong Siu I believe they are the same person.

edit...
So are you saying that the ones on the 1920 census in California are not you family? rather odd as they fit every name you mentioned, or are you saying that even in 1920 there are still Siu families present in Montana and hope to find a connection between the ones in california in 1920 and the ones still present in Montana in 1920?

I looked on the 1920 census in Montana and found only one Siu but when you look on the original copy its Sire born in Iowa if they are there then the name is being misspelled and not showing as "Siu"

Have a look at the index for all 'Siu' registered in the 1930 census,

Poy Siu San Francisco, San Francisco, CA abt 1881 China Head

Yuen Siu Chan Shee San Francisco, San Francisco, CA abt 1888 China Head

Look Siu Dinuba, Tulare, CA abt 1894 China Head

Quang Siu San Francisco, San Francisco, CA abt 1898 Hawaii Head

Kip Siu San Francisco, San Francisco, CA abt 1874 California Head

Sorry Wendy I posted the wrong spelling this is the one I meant to post.

I am quite happy to email you any of the census returns where any of these people are recorded.

Good show!

Mitchell gets this one and I would like to add a few comments about your family, before you close this question.

If you go to my family's website, you will find part of your family's genealogy going back to the beginnings of China's history (Chou and Shang Dynasties). The Siu surname comes from my family origin and roots, which broke up into three major families prior to and during the founding of China 2200 BC to 1700 BC. Today, the Chou Dynasty, which holds the family mantle is China Imperial family, making you an authentic Chinese princess on your step-father's side of the family.

Yours,

Zhou and Guo
