Position:Home>Genealogy> DNA between Syrians and Irish ?...Jewish?

Question:I was curious about how King david had red hair among others that are Jewish. I have seen this with Afghans as well which really surprised me as I never knew. Anyway I am curious if there is any similarities between Irish DNA/Haplo groups with syrians or other middle eastern descents.

Red hair, among any population, exists. About 2% of the WORLDS population has red hair.

Red Hair (or any hair color) comes from two genes (one from mother and one from father) on chromosome 16. And no matter what color your hair is, you have two such genes and can pass either one to your children. The gene for red hair is considered recessive. That is, in order to have red hair, you must have inherited a red hair gene from both your parents (not really true since there are other hair colors, white for example, that are more recessive than red). If either of your parents gave you a more dominant gene for hair color, that would be your hair color.

But since you have two genes, and either one could be passed on to your offspring, it is theoretically possible that there could be a line of descendants from the dawn of man that had the red gene, but not a single person in that line ever had red hair.

Though once two people with red hair (ignoring rarer less dominant colors), ummm, produce children, then those children WILL have red hair (and if they marry a redhead, the grandchildren would have red hair).

So that King David had red hair is not strange at all. Today there are higher concentrations of red hair in certain population - The UK has the highest concentration of redheads (approximated at 13% of population), but 40% (approximated) carry the recessive red hair gene. Ireland has the 2nd largest concentration of redheads (approximated at 10%). One POSSIBLE explaination is that in these regions, red haired people found other red haired people to be exceptionally attractive and thus "joined" with them.

But 2% of the WORLD has red hair. That's a LOT of people. That King David had it, just means that he got from each of his parents the red hair gene - even though it would be likely that NEITHER of his parents (or grandparents, etc.) had red hair.

I think that Mind Bender explained why some Jews have red hair. He, also, stated that the Irish have the greatest numbers of people on this earth with red hair. Let me contribute to your bank of knowledge.

1. There is no relationship, generally speaking, between the Irish and Jews.
2. Syrians and Irish are not related. Generally speaking, in no way!
3. Syrians come from Shem's root as do the Jews.
4. Syrians are sons of Aram, son of Shem.
5. Jews, as many on this forum are, are descendants of Abraham. Abraham is the 10th generation counting from Shem.
