My guess is that it is derivative of Cohen which is a Levite name, different Tribe of Israel.

Kuhn is predominantly German and is common in some parts of the NE US.

i realy dont think so. it is posible that it is german. due to alot of jewish people took ger names so they would not be killed. back in the 40's.
