I've been searching my roots on: ancestry.com and it sure takes a long time! (But anyway) The last name is associated with my grandfather (who was Caucasian),and lived in Ripley,TN at the time. Any information as to other places I can search or what-have-you,would be appreciated. (Thank You!) Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I am looking for anyone with the last name: DRAPER. There are no people named Draper in Lauderdale County, TN in 1880 according to the census. http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/f... The search engine there stops after 200. It found 200+ Drapers in Tennessee in 1880. The Social Security Death Index http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-b... has 0 Drapers in Lauderdale County but 250 in Tennessee. Click on "Advanced" to repeat. RWWC http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.c... has 1,339 people named Draper with Birth Place "TN", none with BP "Lauderdale". The census images I subscribe to have 1900 Clermont Draper Civil District 16, Lauderdale, Tennessee abt 1849 Ohio White Head 1910: Clemon Draper Civil District 11, Lauderdale, TN abt 1849 Ohio Boarder 1930: Clement Draper District 5, Lauderdale, TN abt 1849 Ohio Boarder He obviously ran away to join the circus in 1920, performing as an aging trapeeze artist, then came back in 1930; that or they mis-typed his name in the index. "A long time" is relative. I've been working on my family tree since 1961. This is a text file I paste every once in a while. Just ignore the part about the great grandfather and concentrate on the grandfather. Consider this: IF (big IF) you are now 16 and the result of a long line of teen-aged lovers: You were born 16 years ago, in 1991; Your father was born 16 years before that, in 1975; Your grandfather was born 16 years before that, in 1959; Your great grandfather was born 16 years before that, in 1943. IF (Another big IF) you are now 80 and the result of a long line of men who had a child by their second wife when they were 60: You were born 80 years ago, in 1927; Your father was born 60 years before that, in 1867; Your grandfather was born 60 years before that, in 1807; Your great grandfather was born 60 years before that, in 1747. The Great-Grandfather born in 1943 could have been a 26-year old soldier in Viet Nam in 1969. When he got home in 1970 he might have gone to a disco in a powder-blue double-knit polyester leisure suit. The Great-Grandfather born in 1747 could have been a 29-year old soldier serving under George Washington in the American Revolution in 1776. When he got home in 1781, he might have danced a reel at a barn dance, in a pair of silk knee breeches and shoes with silver buckles. Both examples are extreme, both are physically possible, both show why a birth year or even a birth decade help more than the phrase "my (great) grandfather". I found this entry in Nashville Ward 13, Tenn in 1920 Carrie Draper, abt 1878 Tenn, Head Ellie Draper, abt 1896 Tenn, Son James V Draper, abt 1893 Tenn, Son Bernice P Jenkins, abt 1915 Tenn, Dau Martha Carner, abt 1858 Tenn, Mother Hope you see it; your e-mail is turned off Report It * You must be logged into Answers to add comments.
