I'm from Germany, Bavaria. My surname was 'Euringer' before I married. There is a town 'Euring' in a region of Bavaria named 'Allgaeu (Allg?u)'. This name is very common in Munich an ambiance. I live near Augsburg, but there are 4 entries in the phonebook an 3 of them are my relatives.

It is a Germanic name so I suspect it means a person from Euring - I can't find a town or region with that name today but there are several similar sounding names especially in the south of Germany near the Austrian border.

Selwyn can also be a derivative from the Latin name "Sylvanus" - god of the woods.
