Just a potential clue... need to fit this with your own information to see if it makes sense.... 1913 Border Crossing Manifest from Marcus, Washington (from Canada to US) Anton Tomac, age 23, (birth abt. 1890), Male, Single, Laborer, Can read and write, Nationality: Austrian, Race: Croatian, Last Permanent Residence Country: Canada, Town: Kelavina, Father was K. Tomac living in Bihos, Austria. Also, there is a Sacred Heart Orphanage in Seattle, Washington (very large orphanage) which in 1930 had three Tomac's listed - Margaret M. Tomac (b. abt 1924), Teresa D. Tomac (b. abt 1924) - possibly twin with Margaret and Antoinette Tomac (b. abt 1927). All are listed as born in Washington, but father born in Austria. This could be a really interesting search. Make sure you look for anglicised names such as Anthony and Tony (for Anton) and also search for surname mangles such as Tomac, Tomack, Tomec, Tomeck, Tomek. If the above Anton from the border crossing is in fact your grandfather, note that he was able to read and write so that probably means that most records (if any) will have his surname spelled Tomac. That's a good thing. www.ancestry.com : Oregon Death Index, 1903-98 Oregon Death Index, 1903-98 Name: Tomac, Tony County: Lane Death Date: 17 Apr 1966 Certificate: 5559 Spouse: Justine www.familysearch.org--could this be a son or even grandson, perhaps??
