Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hanses. my family is from germany and i was just wondering

I will ask my German friend tomorrow. His name is Hans and if anyone knows, he will.

Addition: Sorry, I asked him, but he was of no help. I could of sworn he would know. Born and raised in Germany; highly educated; two more letters and his own name would be Hanses. If it's any consolation, I threw him under a bus. (kidding) Good luck in your research.

nope but my social studies teacher is Mr.Hessenthaler

I actually never heard of that last name. Mine is Alona (Ah-low-na) and I havent heard another one either. So, I think your last name isnt too commen.

I never heard of that last name, and the word is "common" not "commen."

just FYI

Do you live in the USA? If so type in your surname on both of these sites and find out.

Rootsweb(free site) has over 900 entries for the name Hanses in family trees. Just pull up the site and put Hanses in the world connect block. Once you do, if you see something that interest you, probe on a name and it will take you to a screen that will give you the name and email address of the submitters.

Now, you can't take as absolute fact everything you see in family trees on any website, free or paid. The information is user submitted and most is not documented. Even when you see the same information repeatedly by many different submitters, that is no guarantee it is correct as people are often copying without verifying.

This is all I could find on www.ancestry.com, sorry.

Hope this helps.

Hansen is very very common. I'm not sure about Hanses, it sounds like a version of the name. It's definitely quite tipically german.

I'm curious that you think your name links you to the Hanseatic League. There were no surnames in the low country (where the Hanseatic League existed) until long after the League was gone. It seems like a leap in logic, particularly since you don't seem to have done most of the research you'd need in order to make the connection.
