How about CHETTISHCOMBE, just north of Tiverton, Devon? That's a reasonable sound-a-like I'd guess.

Where did you find the record with this place Chattishmptory Devon on? It's obviously a mistake

Look up the reference for your birth in the civil registration index's, they are available either via www.ancestry.com or the freebmd web page this will tell you where you were born.
The index's are free to use on ancestry.com and the freebmd is a free to use site, Just a thought as you are tracing family in Devon you might like to try the freecen web site,
