Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: You could try http://www.ancestry.com/learn/facts/fact... or http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.c/qx/...
http://www.nameseekers.co.uk/surname.htm...
hope this helps. you should search in google for what ever country you are from plus name meanings( ex: american name meanings) it works i tried it. http://www.cyndislist.com/names.htm...
Here is an extensive list of surname resources. Unfortunately, I can't tell which of these applies to your name. On the other hand, if you posted it, I'd be doing your homework for you (and grumpy old ladies shouldn't do that..lol)
The goal of the assignment is, I am sure, finding research skills. That's good. On the other hand, what your teacher does not know, is that ALL LAST NAMES DON'T HAVE DEFINITIONS. This is because many names (mainly the weird ones) are not actually the same as they were originally. For example... one of the family names I work is Fullingim. It took over 5 yrs of research before I realized that the original name was Fillingham, and the variation was caused by lack of educated people who didn't know how to spell (didn't need it), or the way it wound up being pronounced with a LOOOONNNNGGG southern drawl. Fillingham turns out to be a tiny village in England.
I doubt he/she is giving you 5 years to get the right answer to the assignment. Do your best. And feel free to share my explanation with the teacher.
One other way is to use google with the name and the word "meaning". It might give you something.
