Question:

1901 Census?

I am trying to trace my GGFs where abouts in the 1901 census. I can find him in the 1891 census, and I know that he was alive in 1910 as I have details of his marriage certificates (first wife died), and birth certificates for his sons.

I have also been able to obtain his medical records, which showed that he died 1958.

I imagine that he may have been in the Navy at the time, but I have nothing to support this.

I have tried putting his name in various forms when doing the searches, but nothing comes up. I can find his mother, but she was living alone, and on her own means.

Hee hee 'Nice' - like your style, though I must admit, from his track record, I don't think that cross dressing was his style - liked his women too much.

I am actually looking at the UK census's and in reply to 'itsjustme' - I have emailed you directly a little while ago with all the details. My ggf's name was Frederick Richard LEES born Mar 1882 in Biggleswade.

I am actually looking at the UK census's and in reply to 'itsjustme' - I have emailed you directly a little while ago with all the details. My ggf's name was Frederick Richard LEES born Mar 1882 in Biggleswade. A good trick I find using ancestry is search with all the details you know apart from surname on 'exact matches' the results are alphabetical so you'll soon find him if it's just a spelling you hadn't thought of. I'd be happy to take a look if you post details. An early cross dresser perhaps? what country are you searching? Are you searching www.ancestry.co.uk ?. If you would like to edit your question with your ggfs name, age and area he lived in I would be happy to do a search for him. You could also have a look on http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/,... its excellent. I found two people on there yesterday for someone who asked for my help. You may wish to track down his service records, he may have been out of the England and Wales area, If he was in the Navy then he may well have been either at sea or abroad or even in Scotland or Ireland, in which case he would not be in the UK 1901 census, and in 1901 we had military personnel over the world. Do have have information that would give you a service number and access to hi records.

Good luck and good hunting I can't find my grandfather in 1901 either. Thought maybe he was off at the second Boer War (1899- 1902) there were 22,000 British casualties, but I've never found any information about how many actually went there. The 1901 census was sent to India for computerisation and there was a lack of familiarity with handwriting styles and UK names. I ended up searching by forename and just wading through the results. I did send corrections in and they have made them

Good luck friends reunited do a great family search
good luck
