In 1920 it looks like Paul moved out of his home and was on his own, but single. Although it says he was born about 1903, I did see a May 15, 1902, birth date for him in the records.

The first record below seems to be for your Paul J. VAN NESS in 1920.

I think I just found the 1910 U.S. Census record, as well. There the name is spelled VANNESS. I included that info. below and it does have parents' names and siblings assuming this is the correct family. This family lived on Mound Street in Union, Indiana. The census page is somewhat difficult to read, but it was written as "VANNESS". I don't know if this is the way the family actually would write it or if this was just a census taker doing this. But, you might want to consider looking for that version of the surname in the future just to cover all bases.
