Question:

I am looking for history of a house in Cedar Springs, MI.?

I believe it was once owned by the Watson family a long time ago. The house is located on Maple Street. If you are familiar with this area and may be able to help me out please respond. Thank you

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I love Cedar Springs! If you visit the Kent Co Register of Deeds office you can find out quickly the names of every person who has ever owned the land (all the way back to the first time it was ever sold) and the names of every mortgager who ever put a lean on the property. You'll need your property ID number, which you can get in the Register of Deeds office if you don't already have it handy. From there, you can search the computerized records as far back as they go. After that they'll show you into a small room full of books called "libers" and you'll get to look up each property transfer individually.

Just make sure you take your own pencils (they don't allow pens) and your own paper. Michigan is a wonderful state, but they won't lend them under any circumstance...those title search people ruined it for the genealogists. This method is foolproof, very quick and completely free. actually you can get info online from the local library they have archives about local history there There is one thing you can do.
If it's a historical house there might be a book on it at your local library. Also, check in the photograph archives to see if your home might be included.
Now here is more difficult, but might take some time. Find out the owners by asking your local title company say the last 50-60 years and they could tell you all the people that lived in the home, however some might not be alive, then you have your neighbors to ask--perhaps they might have photos or know of existing family members.
