Question:

Surname Origin Please?

What is the origin (like Greek, Scottish, ect) surname of Krevaeda? I think it's Italian but I'm not sure. Please post. Thanks. Also if possible, post where you got the information because sometimes people post anything just for points. If it's mispelled, could you please tell me some names close to the spelling I gave so I could try those names?

Several people suggested Hungarian, Serbian and Slavic.

I don't know any ancestor names unfortunately. I only know the name would be linked to the surname Summerlin somewhere down the line.

I know family history is pretty easy. It's just that a lot of my family members are dead on one side and I don't have many names. For example, I can't go past my great-grandfather on one part and I can't go past my grandfather on my dad's side because he never knew their last names or their parents' names. The census things cost money to access and I'm not sure which ones I'd need anyway. On one side of my family, I can go back into the 1600s so I don't need any census stuff there because I already have more than enough information on them. It's just that a lot of my family history got lost in the shuffle and no one remembers it.

It's just that a lot of my family history got lost in the shuffle and no one remembers it. Here are some possibilities:

1. Ekaterini Krevata Vamvakou, Greece 1920 73
2. Ourania Krevata Larissa, Greece 1921 24
3. Serga Krevida Buenos Aires, Argentina 1915 34

Name: Vuyo Kreveda
Birth: abt 1885 - Austria
Arrival: 1910
Residence: 1910 - Steelton Ward 1, Dauphin, Pennsylvania
(1910 US Census)

If you have more particular information about a Krevaeda ancestor who lived before 1930, we'd be glad to track them down.

Also, just googling the terms "kreveda" and "krevada" brings up a lot of websites about Russia. But no immigration records on thm. either italian, spanish, portuguese greek I have searched a couple of sites to see what I could find for you, but didn't turn anything up, so I am posting a link to www.ancestry.com so that you can try various spellings if you aren't 100% sure of the spelling,

Sorry I couldn't help any more than that. Listen to Gen's mom... she gets points for knowing what she is talking about. Names can have different so-called origins, and you can NOT be sure without tracing the person, not the name. The thing about genealogy is that while it is a hobby, it is based in solid method, designed to be factual.
It really isn't as hard as it sounds. Start with you, and work back, one generation at a time. USE a good record to 'prove' yourself (you want it to be good, right?). Whoops..grandma may be 5 yrs older than you thought, she hated admitting to being older than grandpa. You won't be likely to find records of live people online. Always back yourself up with some documentation.
Somewhere around 1930, you'll start into the census records. These are 'sealed' for 72 yrs in the US. Part of the census is where the person is born, and their parent's place of birth. So.. if gr grandpa is 40 yrs old in 1930, he is born about 1890, and if his dad was 40 yrs old when son is born, he was born in 1850.
Wow. You didn't realize that it was not that hard, did you?
The only issue is that we can't tell you where your own parents/ grandparents were born, because your records (theirs) are likely still restricted. We can tell you how.
