Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: try rootsweb.com it is free,
also you can go to any mormon church it is free they have a genealogy room with millions of pieces of information ... they have volunteers to help you find who you are looking for...you don't have to be mormon and they don't preach at you or try to get you to come to their church, try it you will enjoy it. I did and I am Catholic, they are a great bunch of folks! If you will send the names and birthdays and where they lived or were born I will try to help you find out as much as I can,if the information you give me is for people back before 1930 -- as later then that, things are protected for privacy, between 1930 and 2007

send the info. to Nancy at griffhl@comcast.net and I will try to see what I can find for you.... Source(s):
did it myself I hope one of these helps

www.genealogy.com The best way is simply to start with your own family. If you want to do it on the computer, you can download PAF (Personal Ancestral File), which is free genealogy software at http://www.familysearch.org under Order/Download Products. I imagine you can pick it up pretty quick because it is very user-friendly. Then talk to any relatives that you do know and get as much information as you can from them including names, dates, and places.

Here are a few online resources for you to use:

http://www.familysearch.org - Probably the best free online resource, does not require registration.

http://www.ancestry.com is one of the best but has a hefty subscription fee (for most of its databases), requires registration.

Also, you can check the surname message boards for your surname at:

http://genforum.genealogy.com
http://boards.ancestry.com

For links to helpful sites, you will want to take a look at:

http://www.cyndislist.com

And finally for a lot of different resources:

http://www.rootsweb.com

For grave records:

http://www.findagrave.com

It won't all be free but it's worth it.

Family tree websites at http://www.familyinhistory.com Genealogy is one of those things that you REALLY have to 'want' to do. It seems pretty technical and picky to begin with, but that is generally to insure that the results are accurate. Who wants to spend energy finding a gr gr grandfather, only to find out it was the wrong person??
Many new searchers get frustrated starting out... one main reason is wrong expectations. Genealogy goes much smoother once you get to the dead persons, because info on living persons is very limited online. It should be. I have no reason to be able to find your personal facts, as it puts people at risk.
The question is whether grandpa is alive or not. If you are in the US, he is likely to be in the social security death index, if he is dead. From there, you have a name, dates and a place, in order to find further records such as his death certificate (which is often also restricted from being online).

I always suggest new people start at this site... it does NOT find your ancestor. What is does is give you some idea of the many places online that have info, as well as excellent articles on getting started. I have never used anything BUT free sites, and laugh at those who claim you have to pay for everything online. That does not mean you don't have to spend some money... not many hobbies are free.
But, my first tip (per your question) is to point out that the more you WANT it, the easier it is to find how to get it. You might just be more cut out for something else. try ancestry.com free trial it's decent
