Question:

Im looking for my mother Linda Shaw she lives in sheffield in the Dore area?

I need help in searching for her any suggestions on where to start ?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I've tried 192.com for you; I've also tried the Electoral Roll (about 3 years old) for Dore - no success.
There are several Linda Shaw's listed for Sheffield itself.
I have a passing knowledge of Dore (I've friends living in the village so have stayed there a couple of times). The village pubs are a hot bed of knowledge, as are all village pubs.
Try googling The Devonshire Arms, Dore, Sheffield and the Dore Moor Inn, Dore, Sheffield for addresses and phone numbers. The landlord may know Linda or know a man who does.
Alternatively, you could try a letter to the main Sheffield newspaper, address it to "Readers' Letters Column" and ask if anyone knows her and a contact address/phone number.
Best of luck in your search. Come back to me should you want any more assistance. VA
P.S. Do you have a second initial for Linda? You could try www.192.com or the electoral registers for the area where she lives. The local library hold the years 2000-2007 any thing before that will be archived.
hope this helps. A personal advert in the personal column of the local papers might be a good start and the Salvation Army can help. They have a marvellous record in tracing missing people.

Other possibilities could be 192.com that have up to date search engines of electoral registers and other directories, also there are a number of 'searching for' or friends reunited web sites like http://www.missing-you.net/missing_uk_re... you can post a message to, who knows, she might be looking for you? You could try ancestry.com and I will even try it too because I know that I have heard of that name. OMG I know her but I don't know where I know her!!! If the other avenues fail, the Salvation Army will trace missing relatives. You could try the link that I have given you below.

If it is a case that you have been adopted in the past, and you are wanting to find your natural mother, and are in the UK your best bet is to go to the Adoption Dept of the Social Services. There they will be able to get your file from their archives, in the area you were adopted. On file there will be all the relevant information that you need to know, including most probably your mother NI number and health record number. They will do the necessary search for you, but it does take a while.

Don't forget that it will be hard tracing your Mum, as the name you have could have changed, by marriage.

Social Services is your best bet first of all.
