Question:

How/where do you obtain passenger lists for Filipino immigrants to Hawaii between 1915-1950?

I have not had luck locating these records in the US Census. Insight?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: They wouldn't have any link to the census. There wasn't even a decent census done in Hawaii until after the War. And that was only when statehood was being contemplated.

You may...and I can't find confirmation of it...but you may be able to get the records from the National Archives. Otherwise, you'll have to write to the State of Hawaii Archives and see if they are the keepers of the records. Because all of this is pre-statehood, it's hard to tell who's going to have the records...or if they even exist at all.

The only other resource you can try, and it's a good one, is to contact the State Library of Hawaii and ask if these records were kept and who is their keeper.

Good luck. Here's a forum specific to folks researching Filipino genealogy. Maybe someone there will have info. that could be of assistance to your search - http://genforum.genealogy.com/philippine...

ancestry.com (subscriber service) does have Hawaiian Passenger Lists from 1942 -1948. http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=l... (if you can see this page, it details the type of info. in the database.) If you modify your question to include who you are looking for in your question, perhaps, he/she is on this database and someone can check for you.

You might want to check at Cyndi's List, too. http://www.ancestry.com

then look at the Immigration section. you can check the US Census log for that time. if you live near a communtiy that has a geneology library (the Mormon Church one is excellent) then go there
