Question:

How can I find out which English surnames are indigenous to certain counties of England?

If you notice, certain last names are more prevelant in one locale over another. For instance, the Irish have maps which designate certain prevalant surnames on the county from which they hail. Has anyone ever seen such a map for England?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I am Irish, live in England and was told the best way is to check old census returns for patterns. The English were never as local as the Irish and they have a huge base of surnames compared with the Irish.
