Question:

Searching info on the local history and ownership of wheatholm park in airdrie, north lanarkshire,Scotland?

The knowledge of the local people is that the park land was gifted to the people of the local village community of Rawyards (c.1940) by the former landowner Mr.James Taylor. However the local council have stated that the park land is council owned but are reluctant to give document evidence of this. The local history library has very limited information, and the scottish land registry requires further information to allow them to carry out a search.

In further local knowledge the Taylor family established a local bakery business "Wheatholm Bakery" in around 1865 and had acquired the land from a local land owner Gavin Black who in turn had acquired the said land from "The Glasgow Coal Company" .
Any information which would assist in the continuation of research would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes,
Alessiagina
