Well half your heritige would be on your fathers side. If he is still available be sure to interview him. Then on your Mom's side, the records should now be available to you. See the site on adoptions below. Adoptions are the most difficult. Do you know if she had any clue who her birth parents were? Are your Grandparents alive? Can you interview her adoptive parents? Will your father let you go through any paperwork she may have had - talk openly to him about it.

Also, check out the DNA sites, some free, some global projects. I think you should do the free one first.
