Question:

What does it mean when it is said that a family line has died out?

When it is said that a family line has died out, does it mean that there are no more males to carry on the family name, or does it mean that there are NO further members of the family, male OR female, to continue the line; that there is a termination of the DNA signature, both male AND female?
