the name of my grandparents on my dad's side and where they came from. My mum once mentioned that my dad's mum is gypsy. Any good online genealogy sites?

try looking for last names, altered last names, abrreviated names
( john doe, j. doe, johnny doe, j. dowe, ...or "bill instead of will", b.doe vs w.doe, or "doewinkski change to doe", ...
