Cooke is an English name and is a variant of Cook. The name is derived from the occupation. The name is most common in the UK and countries settled by the English such as the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The explorer was Captain James Cook. The most famous Cookes are soul singer Sam Cooke and broadcaster Alistair Cooke.
