Question:

Thanx to those who responded to my question about tombstone?

I got some great ideas of where to start my search and discovered that ancestry.com is available for free at my local library. For anyone who is curious or who can help, my great-grandfathers last name was Carranco and he was a copper miner in tombstone around1917-18.

Note that Tombstone was mostly lead-silver mines. There were no real copper mines in Tombstone and even most of the lead-silver mines were shut down by 1917-18.

If your relative was working in a copper mine, than it was probably at nearby Bisbee which was one of the largest copper mining areas in the US at that time (copper prices went through the roof during WW1). Two other (somewhat smaller) copper mining camps that were active near Tombstone/Bisbee at that time were Courtland and Gleason (about 20 miles to the east).

See my post to your other Tombstone question for an overview of the area's history after the turn of the century and recommendations for archives and places to research regarding Tombstone. In addition to the ones I mentioned there, you can get additional Bisbee information from the Bisbee Mining and Historical Museum archives (see link below).
