How can I find out what happened to my father after his death?

I just found out yesterday that he died in August of this year. That is all I know.
Where can I find more information like cause of death, where and if he is buried, anything.
I haven't seen or spoken to him in over 15 years and any help would be wonderful.

Here are some more details.
He lived on the other side of the state so I'd really like to have as much information before I drive over with no clue as to where to go.
I don't have any contact information for his family, only his number and it's disconnected.
I've checked the newspaper's site and the obits only go back 7 days.
I've checked the Social Security site and he's on there.
Is there any way I can find out if he had a service, a burial, anything?
