Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Here's my response to "Mint", who asked a similar question:

1. Go to www.rootsweb.com and enter their names in the search fields on the left (the ones on the right are for a pay site).

2. Go to www.familysearch.org and enter your grandparents' names in the search fields.

The second one might be a better bet, since it is run by the Mormons and they've done a lot more international work than the folks at Ancestry or Rootsweb. In fact, you might want to check your phone book's yellow pages under "genealogy" for a "family History Center" in your area. The centers are run by the Mormons and are in most metropolitan areas. They serve as outlets for the main genealogy library in Salt Lake City. The staff there can probably help.

Also, the Mormons have a catalog called the "Locality Catalog" which may be able to tell you what records are available from Singapore and Malacca. They may have the catalog on their web site, but they're certain to have one at your local Family History Center.
Check the web site to see if they have one there.
