Question:

How do I find my long lost relatives?

My grandpa died before my mom was born and she never knew him.He died in a hospital during The Vietnam War.After my mom grew up,she tried to contact my grandpa's sister but she did not want to talk to my mom.She was upset that my Grandma had my grandpa buried in Thailand. Now about 20 years later or so,I am trying to find my relatives.I have no idea where to start at.I only know the names of my grandpa's mom and dad and they are probably dead by now. What do I do?

You should take a course in Genealogy. This would help you a lot, to uncover the lost history, you need to start with yourself. Look at your Birth certificate. It tells your parents information. Use that to get their Birth Certificates. Get your parents Marriage Certificate too. Those are available through Vital Records for the town where the event took place. Then you begin to have clues about your Grandparents from your parents Records.

You can use OBITS for your Grandpa. Also try FAMILY Search. That will at least list his death date. Check out the sites I am providing. Be agressive on them, try things over and over with slight variations on the searches (with a first name then without, with an exact match, then without).

Do searches for TOOLS to help you, like in Yahoo Search line put: "Thailand Cemetery", you may find where you can write to get info on your grandparents too.
